About Gloucester Cathedral

A medieval jewel and a glorious sacred space

1000 years of history and architecture are just waiting to be explored. The extraordinary fan-vaulted medieval cloisters and Great East Window are national treasures. King Edward II is buried here and the Coronation of King Henry III took place here too, so you are guaranteed a right royal welcome any time of year.

Project Pilgrim
Gloucester Cathedral has been transformed following the £6.3 million project ‘Pilgrim’ with exciting things to see and do both inside and out. The car park has been transformed into a beautiful public space, fully restoring the 15th century Lady Chapel and turning the Cathedral into a ‘greener’ more accessible place for everyone.

The Three Choirs Festival returns to Gloucester on 26 July - 3 August with bookings open in April.

Daily services will still take place four times a day, every day, so do join them, particularly at Choral Evensong to hear the glorious sound of the Cathedral Choir.

Things to see and do

Take one of the many tours including General Cathedral Tours, Tower Tours, Crypt Tours, Whispering Gallery, Library Visits and much more. Guided, self-guided and group tour options are available.

Families have plenty to see and do, including the Whispering Gallery, the Giant Jigsaw, Children’s Trails and of course not forgetting the chance to see where Harry Potter, Sherlock, Dr Who and Hollow Crown were filmed. With a full programme of concerts, recitals, talks and exhibitions there is something for everyone to enjoy at Gloucester Cathedral.

There are eight disabled parking. Most areas of the Cathedral are accessible to wheelchair with aid of the wheelchair lifts, except the Lady Chapel, The Tower and some side chapels which have narrow entrances.
