Newark Park
Newark Park is a beautiful 750 acre estate with at its heart a charming historic home. The house is proudly situated on top of the Cotswold escarpment, looking down into the Ozleworth valley and to the Mendips beyond.
Newark House was originally a Tudor hunting lodge, built by the Poyntz family in 1550. Over the centuries owners and tenants added to and altered the house, turning it into an impressive and comfortable home to suit its surroundings. Join us inside to uncover the history of the house, and find out how it was saved in the 1970s by Robert Parsons, a Texan architect who uncovered many of Newark’s lost period features.
The Newark Park estate sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing stunning landscape views which you can enjoy on one of our three estate walks. For an even more challenging walk you can continue on to the Cotswold Way, which runs past the estate.
The informal gardens at Newark Park provide beautiful views over the estate, as well as plenty of chances to spot wildlife. Join the ducks in the lakeside garden for a relaxing afternoon, or perhaps you fancy a game of croquet or boules with the children on the croquet lawn.
We host a range of events throughout the year, from Easter trails to a classic car show, outdoor theatre performances and a Christmas weekend. We also host a range of exhibitions in Newark House, showing works by local artists.
A place of architectural intrigue, quaint gardens and sprawling parkland there is much to see and do at Newark for a lovely day out for young and old.

- April: see and smell the wild garlic in the gardens.
- Summer months: floral borders and butterfly spotting in the lakeside garden.
- October: autumn colours in the estate and autumn cyclamen in the gardens.
