WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre opens revamped Welly Boot Land

WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre are delighted to open their exciting, redeveloped, Welly Boot Land play area.
In autumn 2022 Slimbridge began working on the developments to their outdoor adventure playground, a popular attraction at the wetland centre.
The new Welly Boot Land includes brand new play equipment, along with improved levelled surfacing. The redevelopments have not only improved the look and feel of the popular play area, but has also made the experience more accessible for visitors to the centre.
Key features to the redesign include play equipment made from sustainable time sources which are PEFC certified. Lily pad trampolines, climbing trees, a log tunnel and a basket swing. There is also improved accessibility with levelled surfaces and play equipment. The water play areas are wetland themed, offering learning through play and exploration. The new surfacing includes tiger mulch made from recycled forklift tyres and wetpour rubber. The redevelopment also includes moving shaded areas and improving the picnicking locations for families.
WWT Slimbridge have reused most of the timber from the old play equipment, with some of the materials going to the other WWT sites across the country, as well as Slimbridge repurposing materials within their exhibits for animal enrichment.
Welly Boot Land has a water play area with streams and dams, the route of water flow in the play area has not altered. The play are has retained the roundabout and fountain water feature, all of the water play elements, along the water channel so visitors can enjoy hours of watery fun.
Gary Haseley-Nejrup, General Manager for Slimbridge explained:
“Welly Boot Land is a much loved attraction at Slimbridge and it’s been very exciting to see the new plans for the play area come to life. We know families have been eagerly awaiting for it to re-open and we hope they’ll agree it’s been worth the wait!
With the resurfacing the play area will be more accessible and so we hope even more of our visitors will be able to enjoy Welly Boot Land.”
