Wetlands and Wild Places exhibition at WWT Slimbridge

WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre

Wetlands and Wild Places – April 15 to July 13

An artist, who paints wild and untouched places, has sought inspiration from the landscapes of Slimbridge in her latest exhibition.

Rosalind Wise, who lives in Dursley will have her work in the gallery at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre from April 15 to July 13 in an exhibition called Wetlands and Wild Places.

She said: “I like painting wild and natural places where the human footprint is at a minimum.
“I try to convey the beauty, energy and freedom of being in a place and what it is that makes it unique and special.
“I like to paint large so the onlooker feels they could walk into the painting, lose themselves and be a part of it.
”

Rosalind’s large canvasses take up to two weeks for her to complete. She works mainly in the mornings from sketches and photographs and her studies of individual plants and grasses.

At Slimbridge Rosalind has been especially inspired by the seasonal beauty of the trees, the water and the splendour of the habitat for the wildlife found there.

Beverley Hardman, Gallery Manager, said: “The detail, colour and flow in each of Rosalind’s pieces are so pleasing to the eye.
“She is very well-known with her work selling around the world, so we’re delighted that she has actually come here to sketch around the wetlands. It’s the first time we’ve shown her work here and we think it will be very popular our visitors.
”

Rosalind was born in Barry, South Wales. Her earliest inspiration and encouragement to study Art and to paint Nature came from her mother. Her relationship with Nature began with studying a single flower. Through painting it she discovered its beauty, structure and began to understand its form. Rosalind now paints plants where they grow together naturally, she paints their relationship to one another, the energy of the place where they live and the beauty found there.

She has recently been Artist in Residence at RHS Wisley. For many years she has had her painting of the Flower Cycle exhibited at Nature in Art near Twigworth, Gloucester. She has exhibited at the National Botanic Garden in Wales and the Museum in the Park, Stroud.

More information about Rosalind and her work can be found on her website:  www.rosalindwise.co.uk.
