JOURNEY INTO A WORLD OF TREES AT WESTONBIRT ARBORETUM

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, managed by the Forestry Commission, is one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the world. The 600-acre arboretum is home to 2,500 different species of trees, 5 national tree collections, and over 15,000 individual specimens from all over the globe.

Westonbirt Arboretum was established in the 1850s by wealthy landowner Robert Holford and later developed by his son George Holford. Unlike many arboreta, Westonbirt is laid out according to aesthetic appeal rather than scientific or geographical criteria.

Throughout the arboretum, you can find up to 140 ’champion trees’. These trees are the tallest or largest of their kind in the British Isles. Look out for the blue labels!

Westonbirt offers an unforgettable day out in all seasons - from the magnolias and rhododendrons in spring, the green leafy glades in summer and the autumnal colour explosion of the world-famous Japanese maples.

Seasonal events, workshops and family activities run throughout the year. Signature events include Forest Live in June and the spectacular Enchanted Christmas illuminated trail in November and December.
