About The Everyman Theatre
The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham had its grand opening in 1891 with a performance by prominent actress Lily Langtry and has continued to entertain, delight and enthral audiences ever since.
Originally the New Theatre and Opera House, the theatre was designed by Frank Matcham, the greatest architect of his time. It contains one of Matcham’s finest surviving interiors and its auditorium is largely intact.
Many of theatre’s greats have taken centre stage at the Everyman, from Ellen Terry and HB Irving to Charlie Chaplin, Fred Karno and John Gielgud and it is still home to the many stars that visit with touring shows as well as a vital resource to the community.
The Everyman showcases a huge range of performances from drama to musicals, comedy, children’s shows and of course the most anticipated and exciting event on the calendar, the pantomime! It strives to produce entertainment that is attractive and welcoming to the entire population of Gloucestershire and the surrounding regions.
The Everyman Studio Theatre presents a unique programme of events supporting new writing and the groundbreaking work of Gloucestershire’s theatre companies and the ReachOut team work across the county helping children and adults explore their creative potential through the arts in a range of community and educational initiatives. This ranges from working in schools and youth centres to organising an annual carnival, supporting students with a disability devise a performance to training for teachers in delivering drama, training for Equity actors and GCSE, A Level and SATS workshops.
Last, but by no means least, EveryTots and EveryKid sessions provide an opportunity for children and young people to learn new skills, make new friends and discover hidden talents and the successful Youth Theatre regularly perform shows and take performances to the Edinburgh Festival.
