Dean Heritage Centre
Discover the history of the Forest in a grade 2 listed mill building nestled in a valley in the heart of the glorious Forest of Dean. Explore our beautiful five acre site and experience for yourself the splendour of the Forest that surrounds us.
Outside on our woodland site you will find a reconstructed Forester’s cottage, replica mine opening and a Charcoal Burner’s camp. Indoors the museum reveals the history of the area formed by geological events millions of years ago, a more recent industrial past and a unique culture visitors will never forget.
For families, gallery activities, a kids craft space, indoor and outdoor trails provide plenty to occupy everyone. There are pathways to explore and a woodland playground to enjoy.
The Dean Heritage Centre shop stocks a wide range of locally made gifts so you can take a memento of the Forest of Dean home. There are prints, gifts and cards by local artists and pocket money priced items for our younger visitors as well as books for the visitor who would like to find out a little more about the Forest of Dean. We also sell charcoal produced on site during our traditional charcoal burns.
The Dean Heritage Centre Camp Mill Tearoom overlooking the mill pond caters for all dietary choices offering ‘lite bites’, delicious cakes and great tea and coffee or you can picnic at several locations around the site.
An exciting programme of events runs throughout the year; please visit www.deanheritagecentre.com or see event link above.
